Wood Effect Porcelain Tiles
Wood effect tiles are made from porcelain. A porcelain tile is a man-made product that combines kaolin clay, finely ground sand and feldspar. The clay mixture is fired to an extremely high temperature, resulting in a very dense tile that benefits from a low water absorption rate. The print of a wood effect tile is very realistic mimicking the look of a real timber floor.
Yes! One big benefit of wood effect porcelain planks is that they have a low water absorption, meaning they can be used as wood effect bathroom tiles whether on the floor or as shower wall tiles. Natural wood will warp, rot or swell in wet or humid conditions, whereas wood porcelain does not do this.
Many homeowners are opting for underfloor heating in their homes, and wood effect floor tiles are perfectly compatible and suitable with underfloor heating systems. Whether it is electric or plumbed in underfloor heating, these tiles won’t shrink or swell and are also good conductors of heat.
Our wood effect tiles do not require sealing or any special treating, unlike natural wood floors may do.
Whether a wood plank laid as a staggered bond, a small patterned chevron wood effect tile, or large square wood effect tile, wood effect porcelain is simple to install. A wood tile floor or wall should always be laid onto a level substrate, using a full bed of tile adhesive and grouted in between the joints. The use of a tile levelling system is recommended with all porcelain tiles.
Wood effect porcelain is a great option for kitchen tiles, as it is durable and requires little maintenance. Most wood effect tiles are colour-bodied with a realistic pattern printed onto the surface of each tile to provide a wood look flooring option.
A fantastic benefit of wood tile floors is that they are very forgiving, as porcelain is near enough stain resistant. For regular maintenance, you can mop with any household floor cleaner diluted in warm water, or we recommend using Lithofin Conditioning Cleaner specifically designed for porcelain tiles.
As mentioned, wood effect bathroom tiles are a wonderful choice as they will not swell or warp, meaning they are very stable in wet or damp conditions. This also makes them perfect for showers as wood effect wall tiles.
With advancements in state-of-the-art machinery, wood effect floor tiles are extremely realistic and hard to distinguish from a real timber floor.
Chevron and herringbone wood effect tiles tend to be smaller in size and are laid at a 45-degree angle which creates the classic patterns you will recognise. Chevron tiles have a 45-degree edge, whereas herringbone tiles have a 90-degree edge. A plank wood tile floor is usually larger in size and laid as a staggered brick bond with a more uniform look. All formats are also suitable as wood effect wall tiles.
