Natural Stone Tiles FAQs
Natural stone tiles are naturally very dense and hardwearing, making them a practical option for homes that see plenty of footfall. There are a few key steps needed to look after your natural stone floor and keep it looking its best for years to come - read our guide on how to clean and look after natural stone.
In short, natural stone tiles need sealing upon installation which acts as a protective barrier against stains, and requires resealing approximately every 4-5 years. Vacuuming with a brush attachment is recommended and spot cleaning any spillages promptly. Any harsh, acidic cleaners need to be avoided with natural stone tiles – look for pH neutral cleaners and cleaners that say, ‘suitable for natural stone’. If you do have any stubborn stains on the tiles, there are products available to help remove these.
Yes! Underfloor heating is perfectly suited with our natural stone tiles following the correct installation. We strongly advise the use of anti-fracture matting, which is industry standard. This is a thin membrane that should be installed between the screed and your tiles. This membrane protects the tiles from lateral sheer movements, allowing the screed to fracture without damaging the tiles.
Sealant is required for natural stone tiles and will help protect the natural stone against water and oil contamination. Subject to the correct maintenance, we recommend resealing internal dry areas, every 3-5 years.
It is important to use cleaning products designed for natural stone flooring (always check the manufacturers guidelines and test in a discreet area).
Our natural stone tiles come in a variety of finishes to suit every home from traditional to contemporary.
TUMBLED – A gentle ageing process, softening edges and stone markings. Stones with a tumbled finish yield a more subtle, pastel-like appearance.
SEASONED – Seasoned finish adds a slight warmth and texture to the surface.
BRUSHED – A process that removes softer parts of the stone, revealing a slightly textured surface, whilst still retaining some smoothness and straight-cut edges.
HONED – Smooth appearance with straight-cut edges.
SOFTLY WORN – Textured finish lightening the tiles natural shade, with soft but clean edges.
SOFTLY AGED – Textured finish lightening the tiles natural shade, with softened edges.
ANTIQUED – Textured finish with a slight sheen and a hand dressed edges to varying degrees.
TIME WORN – Smoothly textured finish complimented by aged edging.
POLISHED – A high gloss finish, creating a smooth and reflective appearance, with straight-cut edges.
FL stands for Free Length. The free length format is only available in our natural stone tiles.
Free lengths have a fixed width and varying lengths ranging anywhere from 450mm up to a maximum of 1000mm, laid as a random brick bond. You can expect a minimum of 3 different lengths in an order.

The sized tile you go for is personal preference – there is no right or wrong!
