Step Inside Amy's Grade II Barn with Versailles Limestone

Nestled deep within the English countryside is this Grade II Listed Barn conversion. The property dates back to the 19th century, with a timeless style and authentic characteristics of an old farmhouse. Originally standing as horse stables and a derelict barn, Amy set out to transform this farmland into a space that herself, her partner, John and their dog, Murphy could call home. Amy’s renovation project began in April 2022 when they first bought their home, documenting their renovation on her Instagram @bijoubarn. The plans to convert the run-down barn were accepted in early 2023, and after going out to tender with several contractors, they started work in June of that year.

“We wanted to be sympathetic to the building and the materials used in the barn's original construction. We chose to work with the existing layout, retaining the vaulted ceiling and mezzanine area.”

Being Amy’s first renovation project, she came across some challenges along the way. “When we knocked through from our existing home into the barn, we had to tear out our old kitchen, which meant losing our cooker – and dealing with all the dust! After 9 months of making do with just an air fryer and a £20 electric hob, we finally have a cooker again.”

However, Amy found converting the rest of the barn and stables an exciting experience, telling us that she was “incredibly grateful that we've been able to breathe new life into the space.”

Versailles Softy Aged limestone tiles yield a pale wash tone with delicate fossil details and markings, bringing a perfect rustic feel to any space. Amy’s decision to go for the Versailles Softly Aged limestone was based on its natural and understated appearance. “I love the imperfections, the odd fossil and quartz deposit that you stumble upon as you are walking through the house, as well as the softly honed edges on each tile. The tiles look like they could have been laid for decades which compliments the character of our barn perfectly.”

“We were looking for a tile that wasn’t yellow or grey but would blend seamlessly with the oak throughout the barn. The moment we saw the Versailles Softly Aged Limestone in your Leicestershire showroom, I knew it was the perfect fit for our home.”

What Amy set out to create was a calm, elegant and charming space, fit for enjoying quality time with friends and family. Her brilliant idea of blending old, unique pieces from flea markets, and new products from independent brands gives her kitchen the homely atmosphere that she always desired.
